An exceptional terroir
the terraces
The 99 terraces that make up the estate form a living mosaic, set in a unique and exceptional terroir.
The Canadel terroir is based on an unusual geological unit : 35 million years ago, the folding of the Alps overturned the geological layers. So, Triassic soil (-200 million years old) is found above Cretaceous soil (-65 million years old). This Triassic soil, composed of sandstone marl and limestone, ensures perfect water regulation in the vineyard. These clays and limestones bring a magnificent delicacy to the tannins and a great freshness to the wines.
"Every day we admire the beauty of the nature that surrounds us, and, in osmosis with it, we work in the vineyard and cellar to reveal the treasure it offers to us."
between sea and mountains
The Canadel terroir faces the imposing Gros Cerveau moutains chain. This rocky barrier contributes to Canadel’s unique climate, protecting the vines from morning mists and deflecting heavy rains from the east.
